FAQ

What is Stacked?

A shoot planner and gear load-out app for photographers and videographers. You keep your kit, plan each shoot, and Stacked proposes a load-out with a reason on every proposed row. Then it walks you through packing, lets you wrap the shoot afterwards, and shows the sun and weather for the day.

Do I need to create an account?

Not in the current version. Your gear and shoots are stored on your phone. If that ever changes, we will say so here and in the Privacy Policy before it does.

How do I get my gear into the app?

Paste a kit list or browse the built-in catalog by category. In the current build, adding gear by scanning a barcode, and the AI lookup that finds a product and its weight when the catalog doesn't know it, need your own Anthropic API key, entered in Settings; Anthropic charges you for what it uses. You always review a lookup's result before it is saved.

Does it work offline?

Your kit, shoots, load-outs and packing work without a connection. These need one: finding the place you type for a new shoot or a scouted location, weather, barcode and AI lookups, downloading an image link you paste into a reference deck, and catalog updates. A shoot you add offline is still saved, just without its light and weather for now. Once you're back online, open the shoot and Stacked looks its place up; if it has already tried while you were offline, tap the shoot's Light row to try again.

Where is my data stored, and is it backed up?

On your phone, in the app's own storage. Stacked has no backup of its own yet. On iPhone, an iCloud or computer backup of your phone includes Stacked's data. On Android, the system's app backup does not currently include your gear, shoots, photos or settings, so a new or reset Android phone starts Stacked empty. Your calendar events stay in your calendar provider's system. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.

Does it work with my calendar?

Any calendar account already set up on your phone (Google, Outlook, iCloud or a local calendar) can show its events next to your shoots. You can also mirror your shoots to a calendar you choose in Settings.

What gets sent off my phone?

Only what a feature needs: barcode numbers and item names for lookups, a shoot's coordinates and date for weather, place names to your phone's own geocoder, shoots you mirror to your calendar, image links you paste, usage metrics from Google's barcode scanner on Android, and crash reports (on by default, off in Settings). The Privacy Policy lists every one.

Which devices does it run on, and what about widgets?

It's being built for Android phones, iPhone and iPad, and the iPhone and iPad versions are still being tested. Home-screen widgets for what's left to pack and the next shoot are on Android. They are not available on iPhone yet.

How much will it cost?

The planned price is $15 per month after a free one-week trial, billed and managed through Google Play or the App Store, and you can cancel any time in your store account. In the current build, barcode and AI lookups use your own Anthropic API key, which Anthropic bills separately; how lookups work in the paid version will be confirmed before launch. It isn't on sale yet, and the price or terms may change before it is. See Pricing and the Terms.
